Classification of Automobiles

In last article we introduce you to the "basic component of an Automobile vehicle". Now we are back for you to explain general classification of an Automobile vehicle, classification is taken from various points of view and it is describe below:

Automobile vehicle

Table for automobile classification

Use of vehicle:

  • Mopeds/Scooter : Mopeds are two wheeler bikes which is commonly used for personal use. Example of moped is Bajaj Scooter
  • Motor cycles : Motor cycle is two wheel vehicle which has a engine and used for men transportation purpose. It's funny that actually motor cycles are made for two men's travelling ,but in India it is very common that 3-4 men travels over a bike. Now days Indian police really taking good care of traffic rules and we appropriate it.
  • Cars/Jeeps : These are four wheel vehicles which are passenger vehicle and able to carry 4-6 men at a time.
  • Buses/Trucks : These are heavy vehicles, generally buses are passenger vehicle and able to carry 30-50 peoples at a time. Trucks are heavy vehicles and used for goods transportation purpose. Diesel engines are used for these vehicles (diesel engines develop more power to carry heavy load.

Fuel Used:

  • Petrol : In this type of vehicles the Otto cycle is refer. Petrol is more volatile than diesel and have less disadvantages over diesel fuel.
  • Diesel : Diesel vehicle is not volatile as petrol therefore it need special adjustment to inject into the combustion chamber.
  • LPG : LPG stands for Liquid petroleum gas and has advantage that it produce minimum burnt gasses, it means it is less harmful to environment.
  • CNG : CNG stands for compress natural gas, The petroleum store under pressure so it converts into liquid form. It produces less harmful gasses as LPG. Currently in Delhi, Aurangabad etc the CNG vehicle are used to reduce pollution rate.

Engine Mounting;

  • Front engine mounting: Engine is mount in front side of vehicle, This type of mounting is popular in Jeep, Sedan cars, Passenger vehicles etc.
  • Rear engine mounting: The engine is mount in rear side of vehicle, We can see this type of mounting in Racing cars, Special type of vehicles like Go-Kart, ATV vehicle.

Wheels:

  •  Two wheeler : e.g. Motor bikes, mopeds, scooter etc.
  • Three wheeler : e.g. Auto Rickshaw, Tempos, Japanese Rickshaws.
  • Four wheeler : e.g. Cars, jeeps etc.
  • six wheeler : Trucks, buses etc.

Capacity :

  • Heavy transport vehicle (HMV) : e.g. Trucks, buses etc.
  • Light transport vehicle (LMV) : e.g. Cars, jeeps etc.
  • Medium transport vehicle (MMV) : e.g. Tractors etc.

Drives:

It is also divided in two types of drive

Driving side

  • Left hand drive (e.g. America, Britain etc)
  • Right Hand drive (e.g. India, Bangladesh etc)

Drives depends on wheels

  • Front wheel drive (e.g. Tata Indigo, Volkswagen cars etc.)
  • Rear wheel drive (e.g. Ambassador cars, Premier etc.)
  • Four wheel drive (e.g. Jeeps, Sport cars etc.)

Body Style used:

  • Closed cars like sedan, coupe, saloon.
  • Open cars like sports car, convertible car, Mahindra 4X4 jeep etc
  • Special styles like customized vehicles, estate car etc.

 Transmission Used:

  • Manual Transmission : Operator need to switch the gear manually. It makes difficult to beginner to drive vehicle.
  • Semi-Automatic Transmission : This transmission is one of most important revolution in transmission, It has only gear shifter and used dual clutch, it is very efficient to power supply. It makes easy to learn vehicle to beginner. This transmission is famous in sports car manufacturing.
  • Automatic Transmission ; This transmission might consume fuel but it is very reliable to use, Driver need to operate accelerator only, the hydraulic-pneumatic kit inside transmission helps to operate gear ratio. Its being very popular in recent years.
  • CVT : It stands for continuous variable transmission, It is commonly used in scooters, moped vehicles, CVT is able to give ultimate torque ratio so driver only need to operate accelerator and there is no requirement of gear shifter.

We know that in last month Indian court announce that the BS-III vehicles is going to shut-off from 1st April 2017 and only new BS-IV vehicles are being sell (BS-III vehicle users can use vehicle but cant buy BS-III vehicles). One thing that no one knows the reason behind is Why headlamps are keep ON? may be there is nice strategy behinds it; but we don't know yet. Government bring changes in performance of vehicle and emission parameters. The R&D dept of manufacturer works on the BS-IV vehicles and they are successful in controlling emission of vehicle. BS-IV will results in reduction of pollution develop by vehicle emission. Keep study see you soon with news and knowledge too. Have a nice day guys.
